Infrastructure
The Psychiatric Diseases Hospital, Srinagar is housed in an old building which has three ward blocks for patients. Oneward block is reserved for chronicfemale inmates and the Second one has two male wards and one ward for Medico Legal patients. The hospital also has a family ward (04), which is a relatively newer building. Patients are admitted in this ward with attendants. Assistant Matron Section, Nurses Stations/Indoor Pharmacy are located in these buildings the old OPD facility is currently utilized for Psychological counselling. The hospital has a faculty block, Diagnostic Services and Library Area, Three Hostel Building for staff and students and a sarai.The new Hospital Building has not been commissioned yet but the OPD block ground floor is currently in use for OPD, MRD, AB-PMJAY services and outdoor Dispensary. Government Psychiatric Diseases Hospital an associated hospital of Government Medical College, Srinagar was one of the selected hospitals to be upgraded to Centre of Excellence under Scheme A of NMHP.
The existing building of the hospital has been constructed in 1959 and is dilapidated. As such it was decided that a full-fledged hospital would be constructed at the existing site of the Psychiatric diseases Hospital
FEATURES OF THE NEW HOSPITAL BUILDING:
The new hospital building is built on modern lines and will provide OPD and IPD services for psychiatric patients.
It will have the following facilities:
- Separate family wards for males and females
- Closed wards for chronic patients
- A well-equipped ECT Theatre
- EEG and ECG facilities.
- Pharmacy
- MRI (in the process of being procured by JKMSCL)
- Dining Hall for patients
- Recreation hall for patients
Although the building is yet to be commissioned OPD services have been started in the new building from the month of April 2019 on trial basis.
