  • The starting of 13 sub-speciality clinics which are functional six days a week is an achievement of the department which is comparable in standards to state of the art institutions like AIIMS Delhi and PGI Chandigarh.
  • On the research front, the department is excelling with publications from the department being accepted by standard pubmed indexed international and national journals every year.
  • A number of awards have been bagged by the department including Best Teacher in North India by the Head of Department and best research papers over the recent years.
  • A departmental museum in conformity with NMC norms highlighting the latest research and stalwarts who have contributed to the field of dermatology is completed and open for all to visit.
  • The department caters to a huge outpatient load and is the main tertiary referral centre in Kashmir valley for Dermatology, Venereology & Leprosy patients.
  • The department has 2 well equipped labs in Block F where various investigations related to Dermatology, Venereology & Leprosy are routinely carried out.
  • The department has a 30 bedded ward (Ward 4) in SMHS hospital where patients are admitted routinely with various dermatological disorders like pemphigus, psoriasis, eczemas, connective tissue disorders, leprosy etc.
  • The Department has a full fledged dermatosurgery theatre where Hair Transplantation, Platelet Rich Plasma Therapies, Vitiligo surgeries, Nail Surgeries, Laser surgeries, skin biopsies, Electrocauterization & Radiofrequency surgeries, Chemical peeling  to name a few are done on a regular basis.
  • Facility of autologous noncultured epidermal cell suspension is present for vitiligo patients which is being done in very few centres across the country.
  • Fractional CO2 Laser is present in the department which offers high end modernized treatment for all types of scars.
  • Long pulsed Nd-Yag laser hair reduction treatment available for treatment of patients with hirsutism, hypertrichosis etc.
  • Phototherapy services in the form of a very advanced Narrowband UVB therapy unit & Hand and Foot PUVA added recently which is especially useful for vitiligo and psoriasis patients.
  • Iontophoresis is available in the department for the treatment of various hyperhidrotic disorders.
  • Main referral centre for Leprosy and Venereology services where these patients are being diagnosed, investigated and treated and WHO MDT and NACO kits are being distributed to these patients respectively.
  • Rigorous academic schedule for the postgraduate students which is at par with any premier institute of the country where a seminar, journal club, case conference, case presentations, clinico-pathological conferences, group discussions and grand rounds are conducted every week.
  • In addition to this for undergraduate students, theory as well as clinical classes in conformity with latest CBME guidelines as recommended by National Medical Council are conducted on a regular basis.
