- The Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Govt. Lalla Ded Hospital, Sgr held one day Conference on topic “Insights into Infertility & Unborn” on 29.04.2023 in Auditorium Hall of Govt. Lalla Ded Hospital Srinagar.
Gracing the occasion as Chief Guest, Prof. (Dr.) Masood Tanvir, Principal/Dean, GMC Srinagar highlighted the need of having infertility treatment & fetal medicine under one roof especially in a tertiary care hospital like Lalla Ded. He congratulated the Department for organizing the CME (Continued Medical Education) on one of the important and relevant topics.
Prof. (Dr.) Rizwana Habib, Head of the Department, Gynaecology and Obstetrics welcomed all the dignitaries, Faculty Members & Delegates of the CME. In her welcome address, she signified the importance of imparting advanced knowledge and encouraging the best clinical guidelines in the field of infertility which is on considerable rise in our valley. She also impressed upon the need of starting fetal medicine as a speciality in this premier health facility which has been catering to obstetric patients of the valley for more than 40 years now and it is high time to incorporate care of unborn patient i.e. the fetus, in this institute as well.
Renowned gynaecologists of the valley & Ex-HODs of this institute Prof. (Dr.) Naseema Firdous & Prof. (Dr.) Shahida Mufti attended the conference as Guests of honor. They stressed upon the importance of incorporating infertility management and fetal medicine in basic obstetric courses.
Among chairpersons were the Ex-HODs & Ex-Faculty of this Department viz Prof. (Dr.) Farhat Jabeen, Prof. (Dr.) Nighat Firdous and Senior Faculty Members of the Department viz Prof. (Dr.) Syed Masuma Rizvi, Prof. (Dr.) Samiya Mufti, Prof. (Dr.) Samina Sultana & Prof. (Dr.) Shugufta Rather. Also, HODs & Faculty Members from other Departments of GMC Srinagar & other Medical Colleges chaired different sessions.
Two Guest speakers, Dr. Jayesh Amin and Dr. Giresh Patel, shared their expert opinions in the conference. Dr. Jayesh Amin delivered comprehensive lectures on Infertility highlighting the importance of basic physiology of reproduction and different approaches in ovulation induction. Dr. Giresh Patel gave remarkable insights about first trimester ultrasound for anomalies and role of Colour Doppler in fetal growth restriction.
Prof. (Dr.) Ambreen Qureshi, Professor OBG & Organizing Secretary of the conference, outlined the basic workup and importance of Artificial Reproductive Technologies (ART).
Among other speakers were Dr. Asima Afzal Associate Professor, OBG, Dr. Shayesta Rahi, Assistant Professor OBG and Dr. Shafiya, Assistant Professor, Radiology GMC Srinagar who provided thorough insights about various aspects of infertility and fetal medicine.
Paper and Poster presentations event was also held where more than 35 Postgraduates and Senior Residents from different Departments of GMC Srinagar & other Medical Colleges participated and presented their research work. The judges in the event were Prof. (Dr.) S. Mohammad Salim Khan, HOD SPM GMC Srinagar, Prof. (Dr.) Sheikh Mushtaq, Paediatrics GMC Srinagar, Prof. (Dr.) Majid Jehangir, Radio-diagnosis GMC Srinagar and Dr. Shylla Mir, Associate Professor, Obst & Gynae GMC Srinagar.
Best Paper & Poster Awards were also announced and the winners were felicitated by the dignitaries present at the valedictory.
- The Postgraduate Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Govt. Lalla Ded Hospital, Srinagar held two days “Hands on Workshop on Obstetrics ultrasound color Doppler/Fetal Medicine ” on 02.06.2023 and 03.06.2023 in Auditorium Hall of Govt. Lalla Ded Hospital Srinagar.
Prof. (Dr.) Rizwana Habib, Head of the Department, Gynaecology and Obstetrics welcomed all the dignitaries, Faculty Members & Delegates of the workshop. In her welcome address, she stressed upon the need of incorporating fetal medicine facility in the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She also encouraged imparting of advanced knowledge and encouraging the best clinical guidelines in the field of Fetal Medicine. This will go a long way in curbing the practice of referral of patients to outside UT for advanced treatments.
Dr. Giresh Patel, renowned expert in Fetal Medicine from Wings hospital Ahmedabad who has conducted many workshops across the country on Fetal Medicine, imparted hands on training to the participants. Besides, Ms. Khushboo, technical expert, gave a lecture on the basics of handling of USG machines and its various technical aspects.
Among the trainees were Professors, Associate Professors, Senior Residents and postgraduate scholars of the Department of OBG. Moreover, delegates from SKIMS and Health Services Kashmir also attended the said workshop. The conference proved to be a boon for the participants and highlighted latest breakthroughs in clinical/scientific and creative aspects of Ultrasound in Fetal Medicine.
