Research

The department's research themes include environmental and occupational health, health inequality and social determinants of health, health communication, obesity and chronic disease, nutrition and infection, health policy and health care delivery. There are also collaborations with community-based organizations, state and local health departments.

The Department of Community Medicine’s diverse group of faculty, researchers and learners are actively engaged with community, and population health research programs. Research attentions include chronic disease epidemiological studies across the life course, community-based interventions to combat social and environmental risk factors for chronic disease and occupational epidemiology. Scholarly activity in the department includes developing or contributing to textbooks; publishing educational journals and articles;  presenting educational and population health topics at national level meetings; and active participation in many health policy groups
